In this deeply insightful and wide-ranging conversation, mindset coach Rob Brinded joins Jake to discuss how to become masterless—free from the unconscious control of our conditioned minds. Drawing from his first book Mind Decentralized and his upcoming second book, Rob explores the concept of the “masterless mind”: not controlled by intrusive thoughts, social conditioning, or inherited emotional patterns. He introduces his central coaching framework—the five “hamster wheels” of the mind: Able/Unable, Right/Wrong, Gain/Loss, Support/Let Down, and Attention/Ignore. Rob explains how identifying and dissolving these subconscious programs can lead to emotional sovereignty, better relationships, and lasting personal transformation.

They dive into emotional accountability, particularly in parenting, and why the stoic response—though useful in war—can often be a mask for unresolved trauma. Rob shares examples from his own journey, including his time working with elite footballers at Chelsea FC, where he discovered how emotional stress influenced physical injury. He outlines how repeated patterns in our thoughts, emotions, and physical health are driven by early conditioning, and how we can begin to break free through observation, not suppression.

The conversation also connects mental decentralization with Bitcoin and health, noting how poor money leads to poor life decisions and high stress, while adopting Bitcoin can bring clarity, calm, and a platform for building healthier lives. Rob shares his experiences going all in on Bitcoin, how it transformed his financial peace of mind, and how it parallels the process of observing and reprogramming one’s mental operating system. Finally, they explore Rob and his wife Sylvia’s unschooling project in Madeira, a regenerative, Bitcoin-friendly, nature-integrated living community aimed at raising a new generation free of the conditioning that keeps adults stuck in hamster wheels.
